Tangent Assessment Project
Here is an example of an assessment project that I gave to students after we learned about the tangent ratio in grade 10 math. This project gets students to complete a hands-on task to find an unknown height of a real-life object.

Other Activities
Other classroom activities I often incorporate into my classroom includes :
-
Mental Math
-
Whiteboard Activities
-
Exit Tickets
-
Math Music Videos
-
I like to show math music videos that relate to the topics we are covering. Some of my favourites include Gettin' Triggy With It, and SOHCAHTOA style
-
-
Student Surveys
-
I ask students questions on my teaching style such as what works for them vs what doesn't
-
-
Student Check-ins
-
Student rate how they are feeling on specific material for example on a number scale, thumbs up/down, or in a four corners activity
-

These types of activities are often included into my practices as formative assessment tools, whereas my summative assessment tools tend to be quiz, tests, assignments, or project based.

I believe formative assessment is extremely important in informing my own practices as well as for providing students with consistent feedback so they can better themselves and learn from mistakes prior to the important summative assessments.
